1. Research the Company Name you want to use
If you have a Company Name in mind, first of all research it on Google and see if anyone else is using it. Then, search the Companies House Register and IPO Websites. Finally, search for businesses using similar names on Social Media. If you do not turn up any results at all, then you should proceed as soon as possible!

2. Register your new name with Companies House
Register your name with Companies House and pay the Registration fee of £100 for 2026. You will need to have your ID ready to photograph and verify, have your full contact details including new email address, office address and phone number. Ideally you will pay for this via your new Business Bank Account or use a Business Debit Card for online payments.
3. Register with HMRC self-assessment and taxation
You will need to create a new Government Gateway ID, verify your identification, and enter all the details of the new Company Name you have registered including your contact details.
